Ramming mass refers to an amorphous refractory material that is constructed by ramming (manual or mechanical) and hardened under heating above normal temperature. It is made of refractory aggregates, powders, binders, admixtures with a certain grade, and water or other liquids are added and mixed. According to the material classification, there are high-alumina, clay, magnesia, dolomite, zirconium and silicon carbide-carbon refractory ramming materials.
Compared with other amorphous refractory materials of the same material, ramming mass are dry or semi-dry loose, and a dense structure is obtained by strong ramming. Only when heated to the sintering temperature, the combination will have strength.
The construction of ramming mass is convenient and fast, and no baking is required. While reducing the labor intensity of construction personnel, after the construction is completed, iron can be directly tapped without baking, and the furnace can be operated and used. Its characteristic is that it saves time for repair and maintenance.
It has the ability to withstand the scouring of high-temperature molten iron and slag, and is suitable for intermittent tapping and erosion of high iron production and low iron production in front of the furnace. Its performance has good wear resistance and thermal shock resistance, and less residual carbon is produced during use. Its binder is used in combination with phenolic resin, and then a reasonable proportion of silicon carbide is added to adjust the wear resistance and thermal shock performance of the material through a reasonable proportion.
Ramming Mass is mainly used for lining and repairing of medium and small blast furnace tapping channels. It is suitable for small and medium blast furnaces below 400m³, especially for medium and small blast furnaces with single tapping ports; it can also be used for lining residual channels.
The production requirements of this ramming mass are strict. It is produced in separate equipment from neutral castables. The binder resin used must also be combined with a high-viscosity resin. The color is brown-red, the specific gravity is above 1.7, and the corrosion resistance is enhanced after adding; the resin used for waterless pressure slurry is different. The resin used for slurry has a low concentration and low body density. There is a certain difference from the high-concentration resin.During the construction of the baking-free ramming mass, the material is compacted directly on site with a tamping machine. If it is more than 250mm thick, it must be compacted in layers with a tamping machine.
Storage: It needs to be stored in a cool and dry place. The storage period is 6 months. During storage, the lining film of the ton bag should be strong to prevent damage.
